Fraction Subtraction worksheets
This section deals with fraction subtraction. Different types of fractions like proper, improper, mixed, like, unlike, and unit fractions are used here.
These worksheets provide a good insight and understanding of fraction subtraction. Picture subtraction using bars are pies makes this concept much easy. Subtraction on number lines and finding missing variable skills are here for abundant practice.
Also, let us learn to subtract different types of fractions with examples.
1.Subtracting like fractions
The numbers involved would have the same denominators in like fractions. Hence subtracting the numerators and dividing it by the denominator would give us the right answer.
2.Subtracting unlike fractions
When the denominators of fractions are different, so called unlike fractions, LCM of all denominators are taken, to make the denominator of all variables the same. The subtraction process is then similar to like fractions.
3.Subtracting mixed fractions
Convert the mixed fractions to improper fraction. If the denominators of the variables involved are the same then the subtraction process is similar to like fractions. If the denominators of the variables involved are not same then the subtraction process is similar to unlike fractions.
