Squares and Cubes of Numbers worksheets
Squares and cubes of numbers are an easy concept which involves the basic multiplication operation throughout. All natural numbers can be squared and cubed. Squares and cubes always follow a pattern. Look at the figures shown below.
Look at the pattern of dots arranged in the figures shown above. They are arranged in square shape and can be called perfect squares. Thus the number obtained by multiplying a number by itself is a square number. The first 5 square numbers are calculated as follows:
1 x 1= 1
2 x 2= 4
3 x 3 =9
4 x 4= 16
5 x 5= 25
Cube Numbers:
A perfect cube is obtained when a number is multiplied by itself, three times. Thus, when we calculate the cube root of numbers, we always get a natural number which also means all natural numbers can be cubed. The first 5 cube numbers are calculated as follows:
1 x 1 x 1= 1
2 x 2 x 2= 8
3 x 3 x 3= 27
4 x 4 x 4= 64
5 x 5 x 5= 125
